This is the view from atop Sam Knob of the upper Flat Laurel Creek valley, through which this ride travels. This relatively flat, high elevation valley is surrounded by mountain peaks topping out at over 6000', and it's rare for there to be so few trees - and such good views! From the ride, you have good views back up to Sam Knob, where this was taken.
