This large Diamondback Rattlesnake was
resting in the left "lane" of the Neverending
Road, near the Spencer Branch trail intersection. Though
their bite is dangerous, they mind their own business and
won't hurt anyone if they're not bothered. The problem is
detecting them. I would not have even seen it if someone
hadn't stopped me before I blasted obliviously past. I
stopped and passed the animal slowly on the other side of
the road with my bike between me and the snake. He
extended up and toward me slightly, but didn't strike or
rattle. This is the first and only rattler I've ever seen
while on the trail, and I thought it was worth a picture.
