The clifftop overlook view from the alongside the Black Mountain trail; overlook elevation about 4200'. The north end of the Avery Creek Valley is the lower 2/3 of the image. The farthest mountains are the Great Balsam Mountains, peak elevations 6000-6200 feet. The day this picture was taken (May 2, 1999), there was some snow along the trail and the highest mountaintops were completely snow covered, though the trees in the valleys were green with new leaves.
