This is one end of the Homestead trail. This roadbed leads from Bent Creek Gap road at Boyd Branch, down to the Lake Powhatan Recreation Area road, where it is called the Campground Connector trail. Then it continues straight across to lead to this point, where those stairs lead up the campground. Straight ahead (where the riders are going) is the north side of the dam. Keep going straight from there and you'll pass the Hardtimes trailhead and eventually reach the Arboretum. If you turn right out of the photo, you'll pick up the seasonal Homestead trail which wraps around to the south side of the dam, then leads back to the Hardtimes trailhead. It's a more technical route. Let's go!
