The Southeastern Mountain Bike Patrol is affiliated with National Mountain Bike Patrol (NMBP). Its goal is to maintain and promote trail opportunities for the sport of mountain biking through the formation and support of local mountain bike patrol groups. We are headquartered at BioWheels in downtown Asheville, NC. At this time, we operate only the Asheville Unit of the Southeastern Mountain Bike Patrol.

What Is Required:
To join
the Asheville Unit of the Southeastern Mountain Bike Patrol
:

  • You must be certified in First Aid and CPR. For information on how to become certified, contact us.

  • You must register with IMBA/NMBP and pay the $30 membership fee, which comes with lots of good printed materials, stickers, membership cards, and excellent deals on patrol related gear.

  • You must take a course with us to learn necessary skills such as local patrol procedures, environmental and land use issues, working with area land management, communications, mechanical repairs, public relations, and navigation techniques.

  • We offer clinics (usually one full day) to train you in all necessary skills. Keep visiting this site to see information posted about our next clinic, or contact us to see when we have a clinic planned.

  • If you'd like more information on becoming a part of this organization, send me an e-mail or drop by BioWheels in downtown Asheville for an informational brochure and a registration form.

On Patrol:

  • You are required to wear the patrol uniform, which consists of the NMBP jersey and black biking shorts/pants, while patrolling.

  • You must patrol a certain number of hours each season. This is in the neighborhood of 8 hours/month.

  • Follow all of IMBA's Rules of the Trail and set a good example for other trail users.

  • Be ready to assist, educate, and/or inform all trail users you encounter.

  • Have fun!
